Celebrating Creativity and Culture: Open Mic Night at CommuniTree

Over the weekend at CommuniTree, our community arts hub in the heart of Nottingham city centre, was packed with energy as local creatives came together for an afternoon of music, spoken word, and connection. Hosted by the legendary Nottingham Rapper Jah Digga, the open mic night was a true celebration of the city’s vibrant arts scene, showcasing new and upcoming talent Nottingham has to offer.

A Platform for Local Talent

CommuniTree is developing into a place where creativity takes centre stage, and this event was no different. From soulful singers to hip-hop artists, spoken word poets to acoustic musicians, the performances spanned a diverse range of styles and genres.

The afternoon was about more than just entertainment, t was a chance for local artists to share their stories, express their passion, and connect with like-minded people. For some, it was their first time performing in front of an audience, while others brought seasoned confidence to the stage. But one thing was clear: every performer brought raw talent, and the crowd was here for it!

Jah Digga: An Icon of Nottingham’s Music Scene

The afternoon was led by the incomparable Jah Digga, one of Nottingham’s finest rappers and a champion of the city’s creative community. Known for his lyrical talent and dedication to supporting emerging artists, Jah set the tone for the evening with his warm presence and inspiring words.

Not only did he deliver a brilliant performance of his own, but he also made sure everyone who stepped up to the mic felt supported and encouraged. Jah’s enthusiasm was infectious, and his advice to up-and-coming artists—to stay true to themselves and never give up, resonated deeply with the room.

Creativity Bringing People Together

What made the night truly special was the sense of togetherness. Performers and audience members alike cheered each other on, and the room was filled with applause, laughter, and an undeniable feeling of community. Artists swapped tips, connected over shared interests, and left with plans for future collaborations. This is what CommuniTree is all about, breaking down barriers and building bridges through creativity and culture.

A Big Thank You to Arts Council England

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of Arts Council England. Their funding allows CommuniTree to continue providing a welcoming space for artists and the local community to come together and celebrate creativity.

Thanks to their backing, we’ve been able to nurture Nottingham’s grassroots talent and offer opportunities to those who might not otherwise have a platform. CommuniTree is proud to be part of a wider movement that champions the arts and helps make culture accessible to all.

Looking Ahead

The success of this open mic night is just the beginning. At CommuniTree, we’re committed to hosting more events that showcase Nottingham’s thriving creative scene and give local artists the spotlight they deserve.

Whether you’re an artist looking for a stage, a music lover, or someone who just enjoys the buzz of a creative community, CommuniTree is the place for you.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, performed, or supported this event. Let’s keep celebrating the incredible creativity that makes Nottingham so unique…and remember, the mic is always open!
